If you are, like millions of Americans, suffering from chronic neck, back or shoulder pain, you are probably looking for solutions that work. Many people have found relief through chiropractic care.

At Achieve Health and Wellness we treat a wide range of conditions from low back pain, degenerative disc disease, migraines and headaches to fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel and sciatica. We also help patients who suffered a sports injury or have been involved in an auto accident. We strongly believe in a holistic approach and treating more than just symptoms. In addition to spinal alignment we also offer massages, physical therapy, postural correction, foot orthotics, lumbar support and knee bracing, and cold laser treatments. Our goal is your overall well-being, so you can lead a fulfilling and pain-free life.

Who is a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are licensed healthcare professionals who address alignment issues that are the root cause of pain and other symptoms all over the human body. A chiropractor performs physical alignments, or adjustments, of the spine. Chiropractors focus on diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders. Their goal is to reduce pain, improve the functionality of patients, and educate them about upkeep of their health through exercise, diet and therapies. Chiropractors believe that structural and biomechanical derangement of the spine can have a negative effect on the nervous system. Chiropractic treatment restores the integrity and mobility of the spine by manually adjusting it, while reducing pressure on neurological tissues. This leads to improved functioning of other body systems and ultimately a better quality of life for the patient.

When should I see a chiropractor?

You should visit a licensed chiropractor like Dr. Nathan Fisher at Achieve Health and Wellness when you’re experiencing at least one of the following:

  • Pain in your neck, back or knee
  • Sciatica
  • Sport injuries
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Frozen shoulder syndrome
  • Fatigue and lack of energy
  • Digestive issues
  • Muscle aches
  • Numbness and tingling

Looking for a chiropactor? Look No Further!

All of the above health problems, and more, can be addressed with proper chiropractic care.

It should, however, be noted that chiropractors do not treat fractures.

If you don’t experience acute or chronic pain, you should also consider visiting a chiropractor. They can help you maintain your optimal overall well-being. Wellness care is all about prevention and addressing all issues before your mobility is affected.

If you’re not sure whether you would benefit from seeing a chiropractor, simply give us a call and schedule an initial consultation. We will perform an exam, discuss your medical history in detail and order imagining tests to check for any abnormalities. Based on all gathered information, we will come up with the best options for you.

What happens during an appointment with a chiropractor?

When you visit a chiropractor for the first time, they will do a thorough assessment of your medical history. Usually, there is a questionnaire to complete and discuss. Chiropractors will ask about your history of headaches, sleeping patterns, diet, exercise, and any pain you may be experiencing to determine best treatments options for you. They will also perform a physical exam, during which they will focus on your posture, test your muscle strength and mobility, and look for any joints out of alignment. You can also expect reflex analysis and range of motion testing. If medically necessary, x-rays of your spine will be taken as well. Depending on your condition, other diagnostic tests may be ordered as well.

After that, a chiropractor may perform an adjustment. You will lie down on a special, padded table so the chiropractor can manually realign your spine or do a soft tissue manipulation. Don’t worry, chiropractors are knowledgeable (they’ve been trained in over 150 techniques) as well as gentle. During the chiropractic adjustment you may hear some popping or cracking sounds, which are normal. A chiropractor might also use a small device, like an activator, to aid with manipulation.

After the first visit you may feel sore and fatigued or possibly even experience a headache. Most people, however, can feel immediate relief. With time and further treatments, you will start to see an improvement in your health. In rare instances when your condition worsens, or you notice new symptoms like weakness or numbness, make sure to reach out to our office and let them know of any changes.

It’s also worth noting that chiropractors do not prescribe pain medication. Their care is natural; they rely on your body’s ability to heal itself. They focus on non-invasive spinal manipulation for better alignment. In addition, they sometimes use relaxation, stimulation, hot/cold treatments, exercise and diet counseling, massages, ultrasounds, and bracing.

How do you become a chiropractor?

Every chiropractor in the U.S. has to complete four years of undergraduate study and a four year doctorate program to get their Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Then, they have to pass the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exam and obtain a state license to practice. During their studies, chiropractors learn anatomy and physiology. They also practice how to make assessments and spinal adjustments in supervised settings. To keep the license active, all states require chiropractors to complete continuing education courses.

Is a chiropractic adjustment painful?

Typically a chiropractic adjustment is not painful. An adjustment is a non-invasive procedure, during which a highly trained chiropractor uses their hands or a specialized instrument to apply force on a joint. An adjustment involves applying precise, quick, controlled force to help move the joint back into its proper place. Once the procedure is done, the patient can usually feel relief. It is possible, however, to experience minor discomfort that is short-lived. A vast majority of patients leave the chiropractors’ office feeling better than they did when they walked in.
