HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES
Treating Headaches and Migraines
Headaches can make it difficult to concentrate and be productive throughout the day. Chronic headaches, like migraines, are often debilitating. Work stress, poor posture, eye strain, colds, allergies and other illnesses can cause a common headache. If you or someone you love has questions regarding headache pain relief, chiropractic care can help.
Types of Headaches
There are typically five different types of headaches. All respond differently to treatment methods, including massage therapy. Tension headaches are generally the most common and least severe of all of the types. They may cause a great deal of discomfort, but they typically do not impact your vision, balance and strength. They also do not tend to interfere with daily life.
Cluster headaches are more chronic and severe than tension headaches. They can last for weeks and months at a time and tend to stay on one side of the head. Cluster headaches may be seasonal in nature but are comparable to migraines.
Sinus headaches are the result of inflamed sinuses due to allergies or illness. They may accompany swelling in the face, a runny nose and fever.
Rebound headaches occur when an individual overuses prescription or over-the-counter medications. Likely a form of withdrawal, rebound headaches can be avoided by limiting the intake of medications.
Migraines are often confused with tension headaches. They may be debilitating because they can cause loss of vision, vomiting and nausea and can vary in intensity.
Chiropractic Treatment Options
Chiropractic care is an excellent alternative method for headache pain relief. It is also an excellent way to prevent future headaches. Your Bolingbrook chiropractor can perform regular adjustments that reduce or eliminate the buildup of tension in the muscles of the shoulders and neck, which is a primary cause of tension headaches. Chiropractic adjustments can also prevent, reduce swelling and inflammation in the ears and sinuses by allowing the cavities to drain correctly. Types of treatments may include:
Daily vitamin supplements or a change in diet
